Champion Crane is proud to provide this photo library of the Vermeer Mill in Pella. This authentic working Dutch windmill was built in Holland by Lucas Verbij from Hoogemade, Netherlands. It was then disassembled, packed into shipping cartons, shipped to Iowa and reassembled in Pella by two Dutch Craftsmen. The Weitz Company and Champion Crane came in and installed the components. The Vermeer Mill grinds wheat into flour using 100% wind power. At 124’ to the tip of the most upright blade, this windmill is the tallest working windmill in the United States. The windmill was patterned after a similar 1850’s grain mill in the province of Groningen, Netherlands. The windmill is located at 507 Franklin St. in Pella.
